Mobile Communication / Wireless Network Testbed / People
There are currently 9 people actively involved in the Wireless Sensor Network Research Lab. This includes five Research Fellows, two full time PhD students and two MSc students. A short description of their research interest and current activities is provided in the following.
Research Fellows:
- Mirko Presser is a research fellow at CCSR. His research interests are on communication and management protocols for wireless sensor networks. He has been working on short range communications since starting at CCSR, in particular on resource management and scheduling techniques for Personal and Body Area Networks. He was a key member of the technical steering group of e-SENSE and was one of the main actors in securing the funding of the project. He was also actively involved in the CRUISE project and the SETsquared/CALIT2 – UK/US wireless collaborative program. Since January 2008 he is the technical manager of the FP7 SENSEI project (www.sensei-project.eu).
- Francois Carrez
- Stefan Meissner is a research fellow in the CCSR. His research interests include Context Aware Systems, Knowledge Modelling, Sensor Networks, Multimodal User Interfaces and Software Technologies for Mobile Communication Systems. Stefan was working for the IST projects “MobiLife” and “SPICE”.
- Ralf Kernchen is a research fellow at CCSR. He joined the Mobile Research Group in July 2004 as researcher and part-time PhD student. Since then he has been responsible for the coordination of the EU-IST “MobiLife” project from University of Surrey side and has been successfully managing an international research team on mobile multimodal interfaces at task level. Currently he is a member of the architecture steering group in the EU-IST “SPICE” project on next generation service platforms and task leader on a dynamic service portal client. His recent research includes Mobile Multimodal Interfaces, Context-awareness, Service Platforms, Sensor Networks and Software Technologies for Mobile Communication Systems.
- Ling Zhu´s research interest lies in network management and protocol stack design for WS&ANs. He is actively involved as a researcher in the IST e-SENSE project. His current work focuses on mechanism for adaptation, reconfiguration and life-cycle management of WS&AN system.
- Sohail Esfandiyari´s research activities are mainly concerned with IMS platforms and the integration of WS&ANs into service oriented architectures. He was involved in the IST-MobiLife project and is now actively working as a researcher on the IST e-SENSE project. His current work focuses on the integration of WS&ANs into IMS based service platforms.
PhD students:
- Mustafa Mostafavi is currently pursuing his PhD degree at CCSR. His research focuses on in-network coding and time-synchronisation of data flows in WS&ANs for data fusion applications.
- Pirabakaran Navaratnam is a PhD student at CCSR. His research concentrates on streaming media transport protocols in multi-hop ad-hoc network and MAC/transport cross-layer solutions for WS&AN.
MSc students:
- Currently 2 MSc students are working on the WSN Testbed.
